Favorite Snacks for Travel

Before we can get out on the road to our next activity, we are often scrambling to finish up work and pack without forgetting anything! We have forgotten sleeping bags, pillows, utensils, and I am sure we will forget something again.

One thing I never forget is the food. I plan out lunch and dinner and always have options for breakfast and snacks. Space is always at a premium. Furthermore, I do not want to be in a shame spiral for lunching or snacking on the easiest things like fast food or chips and chocolate.

My favorite go to’s for snacks on the road that leave me feeling mentally and physically ready for anything include:

Lightly salted cashews (or any nuts)

Vermont Smoke and Cure Uncured Turkey Pepperoni

Cheese sticks of all kinds

A store bought bag or homemade roasted chickpeas

Easy to pack and eat fresh fruit like clementines, pears, bananas, grapes

Though technically not a snack, seltzer waters have a snack vibe. My latest favorite is San Pellegrino CIAO! Blood Orange.

Often we do not need snacks while traveling because we usually are not going too far from home. That said, recently we hammered our way down the coast from Massachusetts to South Carolina with 2 nights each way in Caledonia State Park in Fayetteville, PA. We put in 8-10 hour days of driving between two people. This was the trip that required some serious snacks and I was glad to have them at the ready.

[…] These savory roasted chickpeas are the ones I use for croutons. These are the very same ones I use for snack packing for long campervan trips.  […]
