Addison’s Adventures

For so many of us who strive to live life to the fullest with Addison’s Disease, we are in a constant balance. People with Addison’s Disease do not make hormones that help the body respond to stress. Stress can be subjective. Each one of us experiences the world differently. There is no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to replacement hormones for Addison’s Disease. We have to weigh science and medical advice.  Sometimes it helps to consider the experiences of others who have the same condition.

  • Seven More Feet

    Seven More Feet

It was time to leave our campground in Hermann, MO and head to Minneapolis. We offered our leftover firewood to our neighbors who were a retired couple from Louisiana. The gentleman came to our site to collect it. He looked over at the bikes on the back of the van and asked us if we… Keep reading

  • The 240-mile Katy Trail

    The 240-mile Katy Trail

Our stopover in Hermann positioned us right on the 240-mile Katy Trail that spans the entire width of Missouri. This is the longest continuous rail trail in the U.S. This is not my average afternoon ride in Topsfield, Massachusetts with road crossings that slow me down—and give me a chance to catch my breath. It… Keep reading

  • Walking & Wine Tasting

    Walking & Wine Tasting

We landed in Hermann, Missouri for our next stop. I wanted to continue to explore local everything. If Hermann had a theme it would be wineries. I was very curious about how the local wine would taste and stand up to my French wine compass. I grew up drinking French wine and have searched for… Keep reading

  • Sports Cathedrals

    Sports Cathedrals

It’s not all wine and outdoor dinners in the van. Wherever we go, Bruce is scoping out if there is a cathedral of sports to visit or even better attend a sporting event. Bruce has explained to me that not all ball parks or stadiums are cathedrals. There is some code I am still trying… Keep reading

  • Finding France in Indiana

    Finding France in Indiana

After being in France for five weeks and discussing our food with some of the locals, I found myself defending the American food experience. It is possible to eat foods made without preservatives and locally sourced here in the U.S.A. So when I knew we were heading to Indianapolis I decided to do some research… Keep reading

Ohio Welcomes You – and it sure did.

It was a four state day, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio where we spent the night at a rest area on the highway, something we never thought we would ever do. Many states allow vehicles to park overnight at rest stops. This is in an effort to combat fatigue while driving, definitely not as… Keep reading

  • Campervan to Conference

    Campervan to Conference

Last week we drove by campervan from the Boston area to Minneapolis, MN for the Adrenal Insufficiency United Summit. I had the honor of being a speaker. I also have adrenal insufficiency. The summit is hosted by and for individuals with adrenal insufficiency and their partners, caregivers, parents, family members, and friends. Though the causes… Keep reading

  • Good Times

    Good Times

I was in the Maritimes for less than a week when I realized my entire family would be disappointed in me. I have not yet celebrated this good time with a meal that includes the legendary lobsters fished off of Prince Edward Island. Since I can remember, lobster meant “good times” in my family. Every… Keep reading

  • Made in Canada

    Made in Canada

One of my favorite things to do when we visit Canada is to hit the grocery store. Whether it is an upscale store at Whistler Blackcomb ski resort or a nostalgic trip to Atwater Market in Montreal, I am always open to products made in Canada. Their produce seems to taste better than supermarket produce… Keep reading

  • Shortcake Summer

    Shortcake Summer

When it comes to cooking in the great outdoors, the most challenging project to take on is baking on the open flame. It is easy to grill up meat, poultry, fish. vegetables, potatoes on the campfire. You can work with too much heat or not enough pretty easily. You can see the food and move… Keep reading
