Addison’s Adventures

For so many of us who strive to live life to the fullest with Addison’s Disease, we are in a constant balance. People with Addison’s Disease do not make hormones that help the body respond to stress. Stress can be subjective. Each one of us experiences the world differently. There is no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to replacement hormones for Addison’s Disease. We have to weigh science and medical advice.  Sometimes it helps to consider the experiences of others who have the same condition.

Stories from Addison’s Adventures

  • Day Tripping

    Day Tripping

At a recent family gathering, a relative exclaimed “Are you going to live in your campervan?” I can see where their curiosity came from when one of these vehicles can cost as much as a house. Taking day trips was all we planned to do with the campervan. We imagined uphill skiing, hiking, and biking… Keep reading

  • Next Trip West By Van

    Next Trip West By Van

Some people are patient. They understand that things will come in good time. They enjoy the process as much as the outcome.  It became clear to me on this recent trip from Boston to Seattle that I am not one of those people. We chose to fly this trip because of time constraints with work… Keep reading

  • The List

    The List

I love lists. Not to check them off but to remind me of the things I look forward to. Lists for me are hope. Lists are things to be excited about and strive for. My grandmother always has something to look forward to. Throughout her 98 years she has looked forward to great adventures like… Keep reading

  • Where is Everyone?

    Where is Everyone?

While spending a week in New Hampshire in July, I found it strange that it feels relatively quiet in the White Mountains this season. Yes, I saw the line of cars waiting to get into Diana’s Baths a few weeks ago. Even so, the fact that we could easily make our usual last minute travel… Keep reading

  • You Don’t Win Friends with Salad

You Don’t Win Friends with Salad

I definitely win friends with salad. I love salads of all kinds, especially the leafy green kind with a French vinaigrette that I throw together with whatever type of vinegar and herbs I have on hand. Everyone loves my vinaigrette. But, sometimes I get vegetabled and saladed out.  While camping at Flow Fest in Ascutney,… Keep reading

  • A Tale of Two Resorts

    A Tale of Two Resorts

I was riding slowly enough downhill at Killington Bike Park to confirm my husband and I were among the most senior people on the trails. I promised myself I’d take it easy returning to mountain biking after a years-long hiatus and a pretty decent loss in fitness. The type of riding that required a full… Keep reading

  • Summer 2025 Campervan Cocktail is Capo Spritz

Summer 2025 Campervan Cocktail is Capo Spritz

We ended a 13-year drought of travel outside the US and Canada with one trip last summer. We traveled from Boston to Seattle for our daughter’s PhD defense. Then, a few days later, we bounced from Seattle to Paris to Corsica for some French Mediterranean fun. Then, Corsica to Paris to Dublin to catch up… Keep reading

  • Funcle Jay

    Funcle Jay

To my children he is funcle Jay and the king of adventure. So when we were invited to his place on Deal Island in Maryland we knew we would have a great time and put the van to the test on the sandy shores of Assateague Island National Seashore. We only got stuck in the… Keep reading

  • Roll with the Season

    Roll with the Season

Every summer I commit to a lobster roll or two. Over the years I have lived in New England I have come to learn what I like and don’t like when it comes to this seasonal splurge. Homarus Americanus, the American lobster used in New England’s lobster rolls became popular in the 19th century when… Keep reading

  • Full Disclosure – Year in review

Full Disclosure – Year in review

Every New Year’s Eve we do a year in review where we take a moment to reflect on the past year. It always leaves me feeling strong and appreciative of all that life throws our way, the blessings and the challenges. We began our camper van adventures in July 2024 so it’s a great time… Keep reading
